The Northwest climate has me reflecting today:

At 20 years of age, I moved out. I relocated 700 miles and another state away from my family and friends to attend college. That first summer on my own had some extremely lonely days. It allowed moments for reflection on my values and relationships. Armed with a handful of new CDs, the songs contained on them have become my soundtrack for that time of self-discovery.


The thing I remember most was the introduction to a monsoon rain storm. Most rain I had experienced was a day or week long event. These were one and two hour cloud and lightning bursts that leave as fast as they enter. The result is an amazing cleansing of everything. These songs further engrained the feeling of enlightenment for me that summer of ‘93.

A Little Funk For Your Tuesday

Wanna know where Mark Ronson got his funky flavor...well here ya go! Zapp and Roger had some of the best funk hits of the 70's and early 80's. I actually knew Roger Troutman's daughter really well because she skated our adult skate nights up in Aurora. This is one of my personal favorites, but I also recommend 'More Bounce To The Ounce', 'Grapevine', and their ballad 'I Wanna Be Your Man'.

L7 Shitlist

NSFW - Wrapping up soundtrack week on Friday the 13th made me think of one of the most disturbing movies of all time for me, Natural Born Killers. Fantastic soundtrack with Leonard Cohen, NIN, Dr. Dre, Bob Dylan, Juliette Lewis, Peter Gabriel, and even Juliette Lewis, but the one that has the most angst reflective of the film is L7's "Shitlist".

I saw these crazy women open for Nirvana in SF in the early 90's. I remember the bassist coming onto stage with her axe-a-blazin'. She propped her foot onto the speaker at the end of the stage and spat a big-ass loogie into the crowd to get the party started.

I sat up and rocked for the next hour.

Originally looking just for Esquivel television theme music (Flinstones, Jetsons, Kojak, etc.) I was reminded that Combustible Edison and Juan Esquivel made up all of the Four Rooms soundtrack, which in turn, led me to this groovin' playist of fine Tarantino soundtrack tunes. Enjoy.

When I think of a single track that defined a movie, one of the first that comes to my mind is this song from the movie Highlander. IMO, Freddie Mercury is one of the greatest frontmen in the history of rock n roll bands, and Queen was one of the first bands to infuse orchestra into their music. Enjoy!

The funniest part about the movie is that Bart Conner is more famous because of Rad than he is because of his olympic gold medals in gymnastics!
